Is Instagram Advertising the future of social media marketing? You may or may not know, Instagram has opened up an advertisement to their 400 million users. An excellent reason to use this platform for business because they have been using the same strategy as Facebook with its “over a billion 1.5 users” Which means a lot of us Social Media heads including Kim Garst think it will continue growing! Instagram Advertising is also a great business opportunity as people are 2.5 times more likely to click on an ad!
Engagement on Instagram has a lot more of a community compared to Facebook! The ratio of followers to engagement is quite high. Kim Garst who I learned this excellent course from is a great example. This Social Media Queen has about 40,000 followers on Instagram and over 200,000 followers on Facebook, yet has the same amount of engagement. Another great aspect about Instagram is more in tune to everything, whereas Facebook is more streamlined to what they want you to see.
So…now you know why you should be getting involved with Instagram Advertising, let’s find out how you use one of these gems.
There are three basic formats.
60-second videos, images and carousel ads, which have a neat little feature of having multiple graphic images you can swipe when interacting.
I’m sure you all know. However, the difficulty we have all been having which is that pesky traffic drive. There is a call to action button you can activate within your Instagram advertising, which some businesses use for brand awareness. Smaller ones, in particular, will also drive traffic to their website.
I cannot stress to you enough the importance of engagement. The more you engage with the niche you wish to connect and target, the more your content will appear in their feed.. therefore a higher click rate. Instagram advertising is an excellent source of marketing due to the fact they hold a tremendous amount of information that we so generously give. location, name, etc etc we are now able to use this info and direct the ad to exactly who you want to target!

First things First.
Connect Instagram ads to Facebook by going into the settings on your business fan page. You can easily find the “Instagram Advertising” button in settings. Put in your Instagram login and voila!
If you don’t have an account already, you can create an Instagram account via Facebook… I know!!!
Now it’s time to use your creative flair and decide what sort of ad you wish to create! Ad programmers, Power Editor and “Ad Runner”, are perfect for this and even better the format is the same principle as a Facebook ad so just make sure you click on ad preview too and all your work is clearly right in front of you…simple!
Now, the big question, what is your objective for this advertisement? Sending people to your website? Increase website conversations and mobile app installs, get video views? The social media world is your oyster. It is important to decide exactly what you wish to advertise so you know who exactly to target.
Now the fun part.
Creating this excellent graphic… Ensure to deliver high-quality images including the correct dimensions. We want no sloppy ads for our branding.
A few formatting pointers…
- Image size: 1080 x1080 square or 1080 x 1080 pixels landscape
- Video no bigger than 30mb
- You can have up to 300 characters in your caption
- Instagrams aspect ratio is generally 1:1 however for a landscape image on ‘Insta’ you can have it 1.9:1.
- We recommend not using URLs as they are unclickable and a bit pointless to driving traffic. Who’s going to copy and paste on their busy day?
To use the trusty “Ad Manager” click on the promote button on the upper right-hand corner of your business/fan page.

This follows with the title of your campaign and who you wish to target your audience!
Identical to Facebook it will lay in front of you, your budget and schedule which you can choose how much or how little you wish to spend on your ad. If you aren’t very confident there is an optimiser which can be of assistance that we recommend you use.
The next following options to complete your ad include
- Ad title
- Image, video or carousel graphics
Once chosen, ensure you think about which page you wish to send it from carefully unless you only have one then easy! Keeping this in mind also choose which Instagram account you want it to go to, again not to worry as you can create one if you don’t already have one available!
One of the most important things to do is make sure you entice your audience, so give it a relevant and eye-catching Ad Headline!

Now the piece de la resistance, click ad preview to scan over your creation to ensure you’ve checked all of the correct options, that the right graphic has selected and you’re channeling it to all the right people.
Once you’re completely satisfied with your brilliant ad, all that’s left to do is place your order!
There we have it! Your first ever Instagram ad has now been shared with the world! Tadah!
